Crunchyroll Raises Prices for Anime Subscriptions Amid Rising Costs

Tough news for anime enthusiasts: Crunchyroll has revealed a price hike across all its subscription tiers, including the budget-friendly “Fan Tier.” Starting next month, subscribers will see an increase of $12 to $24 annually. This is just one of many services that are becoming increasingly pricey.

On February 2, Crunchyroll announced that all three of its streaming tiers—Fan, Mega Fan, and Ultimate Fan—will see price increases in the U.S. effective March 4. Here’s what to expect:

This marks the first price adjustment for the Fan tier since 2019. The last time prices went up in 2024, the Fan tier remained untouched. However, that’s not the case this time around.

To justify the price increase, Crunchyroll highlighted some new features it’s rolling out or has recently implemented. These include teen profiles, the option to skip intros and credits, and support for multiple profiles.

While these additions are likely welcomed by subscribers who have been hoping for such features, it doesn’t change the fact that it feels like every app, service, and subscription is getting more expensive without offering much in return.

Ubisoft has also announced a price increase for Just Dance’s streaming service. Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus continue to rise in cost. Meanwhile, PC components and other tech are becoming more expensive. Recent data from January indicates that online item prices have reached their highest point in over a decade. Welcome to the new normal: owning or renting anything is becoming a costly endeavor, thanks to corporate greed and rising tariffs.
