Cyberpunk 2077 Set for Major Visual Upgrade on PS5 Pro
CD Projekt Red has dedicated significant effort to transforming Cyberpunk 2077 from its rocky launch into one of the standout titles of the last decade, and it seems they’re not finished yet. A new update is set to arrive for the PlayStation 5 version of the game, enhancing support for the PS5 Pro.
Kuba Knapik, vice president and global art director at CD Projekt Red, shared insights on the PlayStation Blog, stating, “We wanted to leverage the PS5 Pro’s advanced technology to deliver 4K visuals, improved performance, advanced ray tracing, and more to the Cyberpunk 2077 experience. Our aim was to showcase the best of both the hardware and our game, making Night City shine as brightly as possible.”
The update will incorporate Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology, along with “ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections,” bringing the lighting closer to the artistic vision for this vibrant world. Players can expect the neon lights and glowing LEDs of Night City to look more striking than ever.
For PS5 Pro owners, CD Projekt Red is offering three graphics modes to cater to different preferences. The “Ray Tracing Pro” mode activates all available ray tracing enhancements, including “ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, skylight, shadows, and emissive lighting,” targeting 40 frames per second on variable refresh rate (VRR)-enabled displays or 30 frames per second otherwise.
Additionally, there’s a Performance mode that aims for the highest frame rate, reaching up to 90 fps on VRR displays, and a Ray Tracing mode that strikes a balance between visuals and performance, featuring select ray tracing enhancements and supporting 60 fps.
These new PS5 Pro features for Cyberpunk 2077 will be available starting April 8, making the investment in Sony’s premium console feel worthwhile, especially for those who purchased it before the recent price increase. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently accessible through PlayStation’s Game Catalog for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.
