Cyberpunk TCG Sets Record as Kickstarter’s Largest Game Launch
The excitement was palpable when the official Cyberpunk trading card game raked in over $8 million on Kickstarter within just 24 hours of its March 17 launch. By March 31, it officially claimed the title of the most-funded game in Kickstarter history. As of now, the campaign has amassed an impressive $15.4 million with 16 days still remaining, comfortably surpassing the previous record held by Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere RPG, which garnered just over $15 million in August 2024.
Kickstarter confirmed this achievement in a blog post, noting that Cyberpunk TCG is now the most funded game across all crowdfunding platforms, not just on their site. Developed by WeirdCo, co-founded by Elliot Cook and Luohan Wei, the project started with a modest goal of $100,000 and was fully funded in a mere seven minutes—though the website experienced some downtime during that rush.
To commemorate this milestone, WeirdCo is gifting a foil nova rare V: Street Kid card to every pledge tier.
“While we celebrate becoming the largest tabletop game in crowdfunding history, our game is a celebration of everywhere Cyberpunk has been, and everywhere it’s going,” Elliot Cook stated in a press release. “At WeirdCo, we prioritize nurturing the human connection and community building. We truly couldn’t have done this without our community, CDPR, and Kickstarter.”
In a chat at PAX East 2026, while the campaign was still a couple million shy of the record, Wei and Cook expressed their astonishment at the overwhelming support. “We’re honored,” they said in unison. Although they didn’t anticipate the game’s explosive success, they acknowledged the strong early backing following the release of a hype trailer in December, which has since garnered over 66,000 views.
Wei highlighted that the Cyberpunk TCG campaign boasts one of the highest numbers of individual backers, with 21,484 supporters contributing to the project. Notably, the average spend per backer is quite substantial. For instance, 4,264 backers each invested $499 in the Street Cred Back, which includes two decks, 108 booster packs, and additional perks. Another 8,965 backers opted for the Netrunner Starter Kit at $349, which offers the same two decks and 72 booster packs. Additionally, 700 backers each shelled out $7,999 for Night City Legend bundles, featuring serialized metal cards of iconic characters like Adam Smasher and David Martinez, along with a wealth of decks and booster packs.
“There’s something really special about seeing Cyberpunk return to its tabletop roots and be met with this level of enthusiasm,” remarked Asher McClennahan, Kickstarter’s head of games, in the platform’s blog post. “For a franchise with this kind of legacy, the response speaks volumes about how eager fans are to connect with the world they love in new ways and how powerful crowdfunding can be in bringing those new experiences to life.”
With more than two weeks left in the campaign, it’s anyone’s guess how high the Cyberpunk TCG total can soar!
