Cyclops Casting Confirmed for Upcoming X-Men Film
Marvel’s new X-Men team is starting to take shape with the casting of a new Scott Summers. Reports indicate that Kit Connor, known for his role in Heartstopper, will portray Cyclops in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’ll be joined by Samara Weaving, who is set to play Emma Frost in director Jake Schreier’s upcoming X-Men film.
At just 22, Connor has already built an impressive resume. He gained recognition as Nick Nelson in Netflix’s Heartstopper series and its sequel film, Heartstopper Forever. Additionally, he portrayed a young Elton John in Rocketman and starred in A24’s Warfare. Connor is also set to appear in the upcoming Elden Ring movie adaptation, alongside Cailee Spaeny, who has been rumored for the role of Rogue in the MCU’s X-Men project.
While Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce any casting details for the X-Men film, Disney is hosting a D23 fan event next week, and it’s likely that Marvel will take this opportunity to unveil the new cast of mutants.
In the MCU, Weaving’s Frost and Connor’s Cyclops won’t be the first mutants introduced. The finale of Ms. Marvel revealed Kamala Khan as a mutant, a plot point that has since been echoed in the comics. Additionally, Sadie Sink’s mysterious role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been confirmed to be Jean Grey, one of the original X-Men.
As for Cyclops, fans can expect to see his classic comic-inspired costume in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, where he will be portrayed by James Marsden. He’ll be joined by familiar faces from the Fox X-Men films, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Speaking of Mystique, Inde Navarrette, known for her role in Obsession, has expressed interest in taking on the character, although reports indicate she has not yet been cast in any MCU role.
X-Men ’97, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and Marvel Rivals are leading a resurgence for the Blue Team leader.
