Darkwing Duck is making a comeback with a new series from Disney.

Disney is diving back into its animation treasure trove, and this time, it’s reviving a beloved duck who’s been itching to take on some outrageous villains for the past 35 years. Darkwing Duck is making a comeback with a brand-new series on Disney Plus, as announced recently.

The show will see Drake Mallard return as the crime-fighting Darkwing, facing off against classic foes like Negaduck and Megavolt. He’ll also team up again with familiar faces Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana, but this time, the stakes are higher with an entire universe at risk.

The premise is delightfully quirky. Here’s the official synopsis:

For the last 35 years, Darkwing Duck has been stuck in a nightmare: an alternate reality that doesn’t recognize his superhero legacy. Enter Duckie, a rebellious teen who knows all about his heroic past and is determined to pull this ego-driven vigilante back into action. Together, this unlikely pair will take on old adversaries like Negaduck and Megavolt while reuniting with allies Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana to save the universe.

The voice cast features Mark Hamill as Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck, with Seth Rogen voicing Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar as Duckie. The cast also includes Dan Stevens, Tiffany Shepis, Kathryn Newton, Teo Briones, Tyler Dean Flores, Katie Rich, and Nat Faxon. Tad Stones, the original creator of Darkwing Duck, has been involved in the new series, expressing his excitement about seeing Darkwing back in action.

This announcement continues Disney’s trend of revisiting its animated classics. Darkwing Duck previously made an appearance in the 2017 reboot of DuckTales, and now he’s getting another chance to headline his own series.

The original Darkwing Duck debuted in 1991 and ran for 91 episodes across Disney Channel, ABC, and syndication. The character also featured in NES and Game Boy games and appeared in Disney comics. Jim Cummings originally voiced Darkwing Duck, with Chris Diamantopoulos taking over in 2017. The original series is currently available for streaming on Disney Plus.

As of now, there’s no release date for the new series, so fans will have to wait for Darkwing to emerge from his signature cloud of blue smoke and declare that he’s ready to get dangerous once more.
