Dave Bautista Shares His Journey to Achieve a Kratos-Level Physique

Stepping into the role of Kratos in the upcoming Prime Video series brings a lot of expectations. Kratos, the main character, is a demigod with a physique that many can only aspire to. Dave Bautista, who is taking on the role of this PlayStation legend, has quite the challenge ahead of him, especially considering he’s already a muscular guy.

Bautista is clearly committed, as shown in a recent clip he posted on social media. He mentioned he’s three weeks into a new weight training regimen and has “2 more months to get where I need to be.” That goal is to achieve a Kratos-level physique.

It seems filming for Kratos hasn’t started yet, which aligns with the production timeline. After an on-set accident in summer 2026, the project had to pause. The original actor cast as Kratos, Ryan Hurst, suffered a bicep tear during a stunt, leading to the scrapping of several episodes that were reportedly already filmed.

Hurst’s casting stirred up some controversy, as fans felt the show didn’t quite capture Kratos’ intimidating appearance. Early set photos faced ridicule online. However, Bautista’s casting has been met with more excitement, though he still has the tough task of bulking up to an almost superhuman size.

Unfortunately, Bautista hasn’t shared his workout routine, which is a missed opportunity. Earlier in 2026, Tom Holland, another star from a Sony series, went viral for his Spider-Man: Brand New Day workout, where he completed as many sets as possible in 20 minutes. His routine included five pull-ups, ten push-ups, and fifteen air squats, and he claimed he could usually manage at least 20 rounds in that time. The Odyssey movie also sparked fitness challenges inspired by Odysseus’ legendary bow, so a God of War workout would surely have made waves!

The first season of the series will follow the storyline of the 2018 game, where Kratos and his son Atreus embark on a quest to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Ronald D. Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica, will serve as the showrunner. With just a couple of months before Bautista is set to start filming, he sounds pumped for the challenge.

“Like ridin a bike!” Bautista exclaimed. “LFG!????????”

God of War is anticipated to premiere on Prime Video in late 2027 or early 2028, and it has already been confirmed for two seasons.
