David Sacks Urges Trump to Withdraw from Iran
David Sacks, the White House’s point person on AI and cryptocurrency, has raised alarms about the potential fallout from an ongoing conflict in Iran. During a discussion on the All In podcast, he emphasized the need to seek a peaceful resolution, warning that Iran could target vital oil and gas infrastructure throughout the Middle East. More concerning, he noted the risk of attacks on desalination plants, which are crucial for providing water to the region, potentially triggering a severe humanitarian crisis.
While humanitarian issues haven’t been a primary focus for Sacks in the past, he is known for his anti-interventionist views. He even suggested at a recent event that the U.S. played a role in provoking Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Despite his previous role in the Trump administration, Sacks remains active in the private sector and has a vested interest in de-escalation, as he believes that is what the markets are looking for.
The ongoing conflict poses a direct threat to the AI sector, which Sacks oversees. Recent Iranian drone strikes have led to the shutdown of liquefied natural gas and helium production by QatarEnergy, a company that supplies a significant portion of the world’s helium, essential for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. Economist Andreas Steno Larsen pointed out that this situation could create a bottleneck for the entire AI industry.
