DC Studios Unveils Initial Insights on Upcoming TV Series
After the co-head of the DC Universe confirmed the lead actors for the upcoming Mister Miracle adaptation, we now have our first glimpse of the animated series. The promotional image features Mister Miracle gazing into the eyes of his long-time love, Big Barda, while a shadowy figure (Darkseid) looms in the background.
James Gunn, the other co-head of the DCU, officially backed these comments, announcing Josh Hutcherson as Mister Miracle and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda. Gunn shared that the series will be produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, with comic writer Tom King at the helm. The show will adapt King and Mitch Gerads’ Eisner-winning run of Mister Miracle, which spanned 12 issues from 2017 to 2019. King recently co-wrote and co-created the TV series Lanterns.
Safran praised King’s work on Mister Miracle, stating, “I think that Tom King really learned a lot in his season of co-creating and executive producing Lanterns, and he adapted his book Mister Miracle fully on his own and wrote all eight episodes, and I think it’s just dynamite.” The Mister Miracle series is set to consist of eight 30-minute episodes, with the possibility of more seasons down the line. DC Studios is targeting a premiere in 2028.
While Mister Miracle has a long history, many modern superhero fans likely recognize the character from King’s 2017 comic. The story follows Scott Free, a New God (an alien race with functional immortality), as he carves out a new life on Earth with his fellow Apokolips emigrant, Big Barda.
DC describes the comic as follows:
Scott Free is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. So great that he escaped Granny Goodness’ gruesome orphanage and the dangers of Apokolips to travel across galaxies and set up a new life on Earth with his wife, the former Female Fury known as Big Barda. Using the stage alter ego of Mister Miracle, he has made a career for himself showcasing his acrobatic escape techniques. He even caught the attention of the Justice League, which counted him among its ranks.
You might say Scott Free has everything…so why isn’t it enough? Mister Miracle has mastered every illusion, achieved every stunt, pulled off every trick—except one. He has never escaped death. Is it even possible? Our hero is going to have to kill himself if he wants to find out.
DC Studios has several projects in the pipeline. The next release is the horror film Clayface, set to debut on Oct. 23. Following that, the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for July 9, 2027. Although not part of the DCU, DC Studios aims to release The Batman Part 2 on Feb. 18, 2028. On the TV front, The People v. Gorilla Grodd is an upcoming mockumentary-style series planned for mid-2027. Other projects in development include a Swamp Thing movie and Batman’s The Brave and the Bold.
Tom King is adapting the series based on his 2017 comic.
