The upcoming DC movie Clayface has been delayed, but the silver lining is that it will now premiere closer to Halloween.

Originally slated for a September 11 release, the comic-book film will now debut on October 23, 2026. This change is part of a broader release date shuffle at Warner Bros., which also sees the long-awaited sequel Practical Magic 2 moving into Clayface’s original slot on September 11, 2026.

While this means DC fans will have to wait a bit longer, the new release date aligns perfectly with the film’s horror-thriller-tragedy theme, making it a fitting addition to the spooky season, just a week before Halloween.

The film will explore the story of the infamous Batman villain, adapting the character Matt Hagen, who transforms into a monstrous figure after a disfiguring accident. While plot specifics remain under wraps, it’s known that the narrative will follow an actor who uses a drug that turns him into a gooey, clay-like substance.

Tom Rhys Harries, known for his role in The Gentlemen, will portray the titular villain. Early glimpses of Rhys in character have surfaced online, showcasing him with bandages on his face. The cast also features Max Minghella and Naomi Ackie.

The film is diving deep into the horror genre, with James Watkins, the director behind the acclaimed 2024 Speak No Evil remake, at the helm, and horror maestro Mike Flanagan, creator of The Haunting of Hill House, penning the script. James Gunn has described Clayface as “a complete horror film,” emphasizing that Flanagan and Watkins will infuse their unique styles into the project.

Clayface is set to hit theaters on October 23, 2026. For now, stay informed with our guide to DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and keep up with all the upcoming DC movies and shows in development.
