DCU’s Brainiac Cast: A Unique and Eerie Interpretation of the Iconic Superman Villain

James Gunn has officially confirmed that Brainiac will make his debut in *Superman: Man of Tomorrow*, with Lars Eidinger stepping into the role of the “creepy, wonderful” villain. Eidinger, known for his performances in *Babylon Berlin* and Netflix’s *All the Light We Cannot See*, will join David Corenswet in this superhero sequel, set to hit theaters in 2027.

“In our worldwide search for Brainiac in *Man of Tomorrow*, Lars Eidinger rose to the top. Welcome to the DCU, Lars,” Gunn shared on Threads, catching fans off guard who had speculated about other potential actors.

After the announcement, a fan inquired about Gunn’s inspirations for Brainiac, asking, “James, is there a particular version of Brainiac you’re taking inspiration from (Silver Age, the Marv Wolfman early 80s version, Byrne era, Geoff Johns, or even the Bruce Timm animated universe where he’s from Krypton)? Can’t wait to see what you do with this character. So many different routes and I’ve been waiting to see one of these movies take a crack at him for 20 years.”

Gunn responded, “I love aspects of many versions of the characters, from the 1950s Binder stuff to the surprisingly scary Wolfman stuff to the animated versions and up through the truly creepy and wonderful, current Absolute Brainiac.”

Gunn also liked a comment from another fan that stated, “Absolute Brainiac is the stuff of NIGHTMARES.”

The anticipation for Brainiac’s introduction has been building, and this confirmation aligns with earlier fan speculation. Much of the buzz originated from a post by Gunn that featured the first page of the *Man of Tomorrow* script’s first draft, which included an anatomical illustration of a seemingly non-human head. Now, it’s clear that this was an early hint at Brainiac’s arrival.

Eidinger will join Superman actor David Corenswet and Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult in the sequel, though the rest of the cast remains unconfirmed. However, fans can expect to see the Justice Gang, including Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho, along with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

*Superman: Man of Tomorrow* is set to soar into theaters on July 9, 2027, following the release of *Supergirl* on June 26, 2026.
