Deadpool #1 Celebrates a Classic Alfred Hitchcock Scene
The Merc With a Mouth is set to return in a brand-new ongoing comic series titled Wade Wilson: Deadpool. Crafted by writer Benjamin Percy and illustrated by the talented Geoff Shaw, this fresh narrative follows Deadpool as he grapples with the consequences of a terrible act, seeking not redemption but rather punishment.
A sneak peek of the interior pages from Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1 reveals Deadpool in a showdown against a horde of villainous scientists, who are hot on his tail in a small crop duster, attempting to take him down with poison.
The chase scene echoes one of the most memorable moments from legendary director Alfred Hitchcock’s film North by Northwest, where Cary Grant’s character, Roger Thornhill, is pursued by a small plane across a field. The comic panel captures a similar angle, paying homage to that iconic sequence.
Marvel describes Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1 as “DANGEROUS. UNHINGED. DEADLY.” It hints at a darker tone, with Deadpool facing more perilous jobs, higher stakes, and a sharper sense of humor. However, Wade isn’t laughing; a haunting memory lingers as a mysterious client leads him down a troubling path. Is this the road to redemption? No, it’s something much worse. Wade knows he can never be forgiven for his past actions… and thus, the new ongoing series kicks off!
What exactly has Wade done? Fans will have to wait until February 11, when Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1 hits the shelves.
