Dedicated Bloodborne Player Who Aided Gamers for 11 Years Steps Back as Interest Wanes

For one dedicated Bloodborne player, a significant chapter is closing. After spending over a decade assisting countless gamers in conquering a particularly challenging boss in FromSoftware’s iconic PlayStation 4 title, Noahman is hanging up his controller due to a lack of summons. He’s even decided to stop his PlayStation Plus subscription and is ready to move on to new adventures.

On May 27, Noahman shared his farewell on the FromSoftware subreddit, stating it was “time to say goodbye to Bloodborne.” Specifically, he was bidding adieu to The Orphan of Kos, a boss he has faced repeatedly for more than ten years.

“Thousands of fights, thousands of kills,” he wrote. “But the player base has dwindled to the point where I don’t get summoned anymore. If you ever summoned me, thank you.”

In a conversation following his retirement announcement, Noahman elaborated on why he dedicated so much time to Kos, noting that it’s “easily the highest demand boss in the game for summon requests.” This made it the quickest way to jump back into the action. As he repeatedly engaged in the fight and assisted others, he found himself growing even fonder of the boss. “Fighting the Orphan was so, so much fun. I started to get good, and I liked the feeling of helping people out.”

Interestingly, Noahman revealed that this was his first experience with a FromSoftware game.

For him, who primarily played on Fridays and weekends, the multiplayer summoning in Bloodborne provided a fantastic way to connect with others. “The relationship between Summoner and Cooperator is like two ships passing in the night. Except in this instance, I’d help the ship get to port safely and be on my way.” Over the years, he estimates he has aided between 5,000 to 6,000 hunters in defeating Kos.

As for his decision to step back, Noahman explained in a follow-up Reddit post that he had been paying for PlayStation Plus solely to assist players with this one boss. With summons becoming rare, he can no longer “justify” the expense. “I’m basically paying to sit in a cave and not get summoned,” he remarked. Perhaps he’ll return for that rumored remake someday… maybe.
