Delivery Robot Seeks Assistance from Human, Gets Rejected with a ‘No Way!’
When a delivery robot asked a guy to push the crosswalk button so it could cross the street, he decided to film the encounter, telling the bot to take a hike and mocking it for replacing humans while still needing their help to do its job.
Recently, a video surfaced of a man in Washington confronting a Mingo food delivery robot, which quickly gained traction across various social media platforms. In the clip, the robot rolls up to the man on the sidewalk near a crosswalk and requests that he press the button. The man declines several times, leaving the robot stuck at the crossing.
“Seriously, Mingo? You want me to press the button for you? F**k you! Do it yourself,” he says in the minute-long video. “You took a human’s job, and now you want me to help you?”
Food delivery robots are becoming a common sight in major U.S. cities, but they’re not winning everyone over. They’ve been known to damage bus stops, invade active crime scenes, and block sidewalks, making it difficult for people in wheelchairs to navigate. As highlighted by the man in the video, these bots are taking jobs while still being unable to perform simple tasks like pressing a button to cross the street.
Welcome to the future, where bots are set to replace humans to save money for the wealthy, leaving us to serve the machines. Just look at how Waymo pays people to close doors left open on its robotaxis. Good times! Anyway, I think I’ll go give the floor-cleaning robot at my local gas station another kick.
