Deltarune’s Chapter 5 update arrives as developers shift their attention to Chapter 6.
Developer Toby Fox has rolled out the latest patch for Deltarune, bringing the game closer to its highly anticipated conclusion. Version 0.0.253 marks the final update for Chapter 5 as the focus shifts to future content.
The full patch notes for v0.0.253 were shared on July 30, detailing a range of bug fixes from earlier chapters, but the standout addition is the new Shadow Crystal boss for Chapter 5. This time, players will face Pink, the last of the Shadow Crystal bosses, and she’s definitely a challenge. The patch introduces two new difficulty options for this encounter.
If players find themselves defeated by Pink, a Pink Bomb will appear outside the battle arena. Interacting with it allows players to select either “Nicer” or “Meaner.” Opting for “Nicer” makes the fight a bit more manageable by adding an indicator for explosion locations and extending the bomb detonation time by one-sixth of a second. On the other hand, “Meaner” ramps up the challenge by increasing Pink’s damage by 25% and slightly speeding up some of her attacks. Both options will also delay the activation of the bomb explosion hitbox by one frame.
The patch encourages players to tackle the tougher difficulty with a note stating, “Girls like it when you are better at dodging danmaku.” Those who manage to defeat Pink on “Meaner” will receive a unique reward, though it may not be what they expect. After the battle, Pink will shower Kris, the protagonist, with kisses in the post-fight cutscene. It appears that the choice of difficulty doesn’t significantly alter the overall playthrough experience.
Toby Fox concludes the patch notes by confirming that there are no further updates planned for Chapter 5. The development team will now concentrate entirely on Chapter 6, the next installment in Deltarune’s ongoing saga, which is currently slated for release in 2027.
