Demon Slayer Sets New Record Ahead of Theatrical Debut

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has emerged as one of the top-grossing films of 2025, and with audiences in Japan finally experiencing it in IMAX, the theatrical run is set to expand further with ScreenX and 4DX formats. Beginning February 20, select theaters in Japan will showcase the latest installment of the Demon Slayer franchise in these immersive formats for the very first time.

ScreenX utilizes a unique three-screen setup that broadens the visual experience beyond the main display, enhancing immersion during key scenes. Infinity Castle will make history as the first anime to adopt this format, following its milestone as Japan’s inaugural anime release in traditional IMAX.

Currently, ScreenX and 4DX screenings are exclusive to Japan and the Philippines, but there are whispers that theaters around the globe equipped with these technologies might eventually host limited showings of Infinity Castle. Additionally, there are speculations that areas lacking ScreenX or 4DX could see a standard IMAX re-release.

Infinity Castle premiered in Japan on July 18, 2025, launching a remarkable box office journey that raked in over 25 billion yen (approximately $174 million) within its first month. After dominating the domestic market, the film made its international debut on August 14, hitting North American theaters on September 12, and ultimately grossing over $600 million worldwide. This film marks the beginning of a trilogy that will wrap up the adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the beloved manga created by Koyoharu Gotoge and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
