Demon Slayer’s 2026 Plans May Disappoint Anime Enthusiasts

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has shattered records to become the highest-grossing anime film ever, leaving fans eager for more from this beloved franchise. At the top of their wish list is the home release of Infinity Castle and a confirmed timeline for its sequel. While there’s speculation about a digital release later this year, a TV adaptation similar to the one for Mugen Train seems unlikely. Instead, the focus appears to be on re-airing all seasons of the Demon Slayer anime in Japan, starting April 5, rather than adapting the blockbuster film for television.

According to the official Demon Slayer website, Fuji TV will broadcast the series weekly, taking over the Sunday time slot previously held by One Piece before it shifted to a seasonal format. With 63 episodes in total, this rebroadcast will continue until approximately July 2027, which means fans might not see a TV version of Infinity Castle until next summer—right around when the sequel is expected to drop. It’s hard to envision ufotable splitting its resources when a project of Infinity Castle’s scale demands so much effort.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train hit theaters on October 16, 2020, but it didn’t make its way to Crunchyroll until June 22, 2021—an eight-month wait. The TV adaptation of Mugen Train, which included additional scenes from the film, premiered on October 10, 2021. When asked about the possibility of a TV adaptation for Infinity Castle, Hikaru Kondou, co-founder of ufotable and chief writer for Infinity Castle, stated that he “cannot answer.”

Given the current broadcast plans and the fact that Infinity Castle is still showing in Japan, it seems unlikely that there will be significant new updates for Demon Slayer this year, aside from the home release of Infinity Castle. This year marks the first since the anime’s launch without a new episode, film, or compilation movie. While it appears that a sequel won’t materialize this year and that such a large-scale production will take time, fans might receive news around the announcement of Infinity Castle’s home release date.
