Desktop PC Prices Rise Amid Ongoing RAM Shortage

Just weeks after increasing the cost of its RAM modules, Framework has announced a price hike for its desktop PC due to the ongoing global memory shortage. The Framework Desktop featuring 32GB of RAM and an AMD Ryzen AI Max 385 chip now starts at $1,139, up from $1,099.

“We held off on it for as long as we could, but we had to update our Framework Desktop pricing today to account for the massive increase in LPDDR5x pricing from our suppliers,” Framework stated in a post on X. “As before, we’re only adjusting prices enough to cover the increases in cost.”

The price for Framework Desktops with higher RAM configurations and a Ryzen AI Max Plus 395 chip has also risen, with the 64GB model now priced at $1,639, up from $1,599, and the 128GB option jumping from $1,999 to $2,459. Back in December, Framework hinted at the possibility of further price adjustments, noting, “it is very likely we’ll need to adjust module prices again within the next month.”

As AI companies continue to consume vast amounts of RAM, device manufacturers across the tech landscape are grappling with a significant memory shortage, which analysts predict could extend into 2027. In addition to Framework, Raspberry Pi has raised prices on its single-board computers, while Dell, HP, Xiaomi, Acer, and Asus have all signaled potential price increases on their products.
