Deus Ex Creator Unveils New Stealth Game Focused on Solo and Co-Op Gameplay
When OtherSide Entertainment unveiled the latest project from Warren Spector, renowned for his contributions to Deus Ex and Ultima Underworld, it was initially pitched as a PvPvE stealth-action multiplayer experience. Fast forward to 2024, and the studio has made a significant pivot with Thick as Thieves, shifting its focus toward solo and cooperative gameplay.
In a recent update on Steam, the studio shared, “When we first revealed Thick as Thieves, we intended to focus on PvPvE gameplay. However, as development progressed and the world of Kilcairn came to life, we found ourselves enjoying solo and co-op play much more. So, we’ve made a decision we believe is right for the game: Thick as Thieves is now centered on two-player co-op and single-player experiences.”
This new direction allows OtherSide to hone in on “what makes Thick as Thieves truly special – dynamic stealth gameplay.” The developer noted, “We’re already seeing how this has enhanced the action, whether you’re going solo or teaming up with a partner. We’ve had some incredible moments during testing, and now we’re channeling all our energy into making the game even better as we approach launch.”
Thick as Thieves is set to be showcased at the upcoming Triple-i Initiative, a gaming event that will also highlight titles like Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Windrose, and Dead as Disco. The game is described as “A PvPvE multiplayer stealth game set in a 1910s metropolis filled with magic and intrigue. Hide, sneak, and steal your way through the ranks as you match your cunning against rival thieves in an immersive living world of stories and shadows.”
This shift in focus for Thick as Thieves positions it to stand out in an increasingly crowded PvPvE landscape, which is currently dominated by extraction shooter games like Arc Raiders, Marathon, and Escape from Tarkov. It will also face competition from upcoming titles such as Deep Worlds’ Beautiful Light, Krafton’s PUBG: Black Budget, and FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods.
While Thick as Thieves does not yet have a confirmed release date, it is anticipated to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
