Diablo 4 Unveils Second Expansion with New Classes and Major Updates
Diablo 4’s upcoming expansion is titled Lord of Hatred, set to release on April 28, 2026. This expansion introduces two new classes, including the highly anticipated Paladin. Additionally, there’s a promise of a significant overhaul to the end-game experience, which players hope will finally hit the mark.
Building on the storyline from the first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, Lord of Hatred transports players to Skovos, the oldest region in the game. Here, adventurers will embark on a dungeon-crawling loot quest through “volcanic coasts, storm-lashed forests, and waterlogged ruins steeped in forgotten lore.” The new Paladin class, equipped with a hammer and shield, will join forces with a “yet-unrevealed class” that aims to “reshape the battlefield.” Together, players will confront Mephisto and ally with Lilith in this epic showdown.
The gameplay trailer showcases these exciting features.
Beyond the main highlights, Lord of Hatred promises a thorough reworking of Diablo 4’s progression system. Skill trees will receive new class-specific variants and expanded level caps. A Loot Filter will streamline the process of farming for specific drops, while enhanced crafting introduces the Horadic Cube for experimentation and a new Talisman for set bonuses.
On the grind side, Blizzard is rolling out War Plans, allowing players to tailor their endgame progression based on preferred activities and modifiers to earn “high-value rewards.” A new activity called Echoing Hatred will challenge players to test their builds. And yes, fishing is making its way to Sanctuary—because what’s an online multiplayer game without it?
Players who pre-order the expansion can unlock the Paladin class and start playing immediately. It remains to be seen if this expansion can elevate Diablo 4 to the level of replayability that Diablo 3 achieved, but it certainly promises to deliver another engaging campaign.
