Diablo 4 Update Unintentionally Grants Players Immortality: “This Definitely Broke the Game”
It wouldn’t be a true Diablo 4 expansion without some outrageous glitches that throw the game into chaos. The latest, courtesy of the Lord of Hatred, introduces a strange exploit that emerged after Blizzard tried to fix a different issue. For now, players are enjoying an absurd level of survivability as they stack damage reduction far beyond what the developers intended.
The chaos kicked off with the Paladin’s Aspect of Glynn’s Anvil, which boosts your maximum Resolve by 2 and grants 2.5 – 4 percent extra damage reduction per stack. Normally, players can stack Resolve up to eight times, providing a solid 25 percent damage reduction that gets consumed with each hit taken. Got that?
When the Lord of Hatred launched on April 28, it inadvertently broke this aspect, resulting in players receiving less damage reduction than expected. A patch released on May 13 aimed to fix this issue, among others, but players quickly discovered that it had actually flipped the aspect’s effectiveness on its head.
One player shared on the Diablo 4 subreddit, “With the now fixed Glynn’s Anvil aspect on my legs and with 58 max stacks of Resolve, my toughness in combat went from 9 million to 52 million. Don’t sit on this aspect; it’s extremely strong and lets you roll off most other defensive stats on your gear to focus on offense.”
So, what’s happening? Players are equipping their gear with the Aspect of Glynn’s Anvil (which isn’t exclusive to the Paladin) and optimizing their armor to maximize the number of Resolve stacks. This new strategy is taking the community by storm, with YouTubers like Wudijo showcasing how to leverage it to breeze through tougher content.
Diablo 4 YouTuber MacroBioBois demonstrated the numbers in action. Without any stacks of Resolve, his character typically takes 30,000 damage. With full stacks across all gear, that drops to just 4,000 damage. While a high toughness doesn’t completely negate all damage due to the percentage reduction, it’s all about managing health effectively. The newly enhanced Aspect of Glynn’s Anvil feels like adding multiple passive income streams to your character’s arsenal.
Blizzard hasn’t commented on this new stack-flation phenomenon sweeping through Sanctuary, but it’s widely expected that the development team will step in soon to restore balance. While infinite toughness might make players feel nearly invincible, lacking the damage to back it up can still make higher-level challenges a grind. As one player quipped, “I used to have 6m toughness with my barb. Nobody could kill me, but I couldn’t kill anything either.” Another simply stated, “Yep, this broke the game.”
