Diablo 5 Unveils New Plague Knight Class at BlizzCon

Shortly after its unveiling at theBlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony, a dedicated panel provided deeper insights into the newly announced Diablo 5. Attendees learned more about the game’s narrative and its emphasis on procedural generation, along with the exciting news that at least one new class will be available at launch.

The Plague Knight was confirmed as the new class during the panel. Game director Joe Shely described the Plague Knight as “walking death,” a heavily armored character who spreads diseases across the battlefield while also consuming them to enhance its own abilities. Although gameplay footage has yet to be revealed, this class already promises to bring a unique twist to the franchise.

Additionally, it was confirmed that the Monk and Demon Hunter classes will be available from day one in Diablo 5, with the game featuring more classes at launch than previous titles in the series. True to Diablo’s legacy, each class will offer a variety of builds for players to explore. Shely hinted that the Plague Knight is just the beginning, with multiple new classes set to join the roster.

Diablo 5 is also set to break away from the traditional structure seen in earlier games. The reveal trailer showcased a world ravaged by Diablo, who will be a fully developed character this time around, moving away from the typical town and quest-giver format.

Instead, players will travel with a caravan, gradually expanding it throughout their journey. For instance, there will be a single blacksmith who serves as a source of numerous side quests and is designed to be a rich, engaging character. A Treasure Goblin will even accompany your caravan, adding an intriguing layer to how the game humanizes one of the franchise’s most recognizable foes.

The panel also hinted that when players venture beyond the caravan, the world and dungeons of Diablo 5 will be procedurally generated. Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see how all these elements come together, as Diablo 5 is set to launch in spring 2029.

The Diablo franchise is stepping into its post-apocalyptic era.
