Diablo: Unbound Set for 2027 Release

Just weeks after the unexpected announcement of Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment is expanding the Diablo universe with a new tabletop experience: a “dungeon battler” called Diablo: Unbound. This board game, developed by Glass Cannon Unplugged, was unveiled during Spiel Essen, the world’s largest board game convention.

Staying true to the spirit of Blizzard’s iconic video games, Diablo: Unbound promises to be a “highly replayable cooperative action game” featuring hack-and-slash gameplay. Players can team up in groups of one to four to navigate dungeons, vanquish evil foes, and gather increasingly powerful loot, as detailed in an announcement from Glass Cannon Unplugged.

“You get the high-stakes showdowns of a boss battler—and hordes of monsters that never let up,” said Jakub Wiśniewski, CEO of Glass Cannon Unplugged. “But you don’t crawl through dungeons. You battle your way down. That’s why we call it a dungeon battler.”

The game will incorporate both deck-building and dice-rolling mechanics, drawing from the rich history of the franchise. Players can choose from four classic classes: Barbarian, Rogue, Sorceress, and Paladin, each equipped with unique skill trees, abilities, and progression paths. Additional classes will be unlocked through stretch goals and future expansions.

Diablo: Unbound aims to capture the essence of Blizzard’s beloved click-and-kill action RPG. The game is structured into three acts, each containing three dungeon levels, culminating in powerful boss encounters. Players can expect a wealth of randomized loot, with the potential for greater risks leading to greater rewards. Between dungeon runs, players can enter a Town Phase to enhance their skills, manage their loot, and respec. Each dungeon session lasts about 60-90 minutes, while completing a full act will take around three to four hours.

For those seeking a challenge beyond the main campaign, an endgame mode called Torment will allow players to confront any of the bosses in their ultimate forms, balanced for high-level characters.

Diablo: Unbound is currently in pre-launch on Gamefound, with Glass Cannon Unplugged set to share more details in the coming months, aiming for a full campaign launch in Q1 2027.

Glass Cannon Unplugged has a solid history of creating tabletop adaptations of video games and other properties, with a portfolio that includes titles like Frostpunk: The Board Game, Apex Legends: The Board Game, Dying Light: The Board Game, and Don’t Starve: The Board Game.
