Director of a Hidden DC Gem Unveils Wild Trailer Featuring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista Battling the Yakuza
The first trailer for the action-comedy The Wrecking Crew has dropped, featuring Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa as brothers on a mission to avenge their father’s death while dodging Yakuza assassins.
Set in the vibrant backdrop of Hawai’i, where Momoa was born and has delved into its history in his streaming series, the plot follows estranged half-brothers Jonny and James as they reunite after their father’s mysterious demise. Their quest for the truth uncovers buried secrets and a conspiracy that threatens to tear their family apart.
The trailer showcases a wild blend of humor and action, reminiscent of the over-the-top style of low-budget ’80s action flicks, almost like if the legendary Andy Sidaris had taken a crack at directing a Fast and Furious film.
As a fan of that genre, I’m cautiously optimistic about The Wrecking Crew. It also benefits from the direction of Angel Manuel Soto, known for his work on DC’s Blue Beetle, which I really enjoyed.
Momoa, a familiar face in the DC universe, has portrayed Aquaman in two films and appeared in both versions of Justice League, as well as Peacemaker season 1 (though that was altered in season 2). Bautista is well-known for his role as Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy series and Avengers: Infinity War.
The Wrecking Crew is set to start streaming on January 28.
