Director of Bone Temple Envisions Sony’s Clue Remake as a Blend of White Lotus and Knives Out
Clue is set to make a comeback, and Nia DaCosta has an intriguing vision for the remake. The director, known for her work on the upcoming 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, recently shared her thoughts on the setting for this classic whodunnit and the role she envisions for Tessa Thompson.
In a recent Reddit discussion, a fan posed the question: “If you were in charge of writing and directing the Clue remake, what would your take be? And which character would Tessa Thompson portray?” DaCosta responded with an exciting concept: “My take would be set in Norway at a resort during the off-season, isolated from everything. Tessa would play the hotel manager, taking on the role of the Tim Curry character.” This idea evokes a blend of The White Lotus and Knives Out.
As noted by the fan, Sony Pictures secured the rights to adapt the beloved board game in 2024, although details about the film’s development remain under wraps.
The original Clue film, released in 1985 and directed by Jonathan Lynn, featured Tim Curry as Wadsworth the butler, who guides a group of strangers through a night of chaos in a secluded mansion. The cast also included Eileen Brennan as Mrs. Peacock, Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White, Christopher Lloyd as Professor Plum, Michael McKean as Mr. Green, Martin Mull as Colonel Mustard, Lesley Ann Warren as Miss Scarlet, Colleen Camp as French maid Yvette, and Lee Ving as Mr. Boddy.
Not only is Clue celebrated for its sharp humor and homage to the iconic game, but it also gained notoriety for its multiple endings—a clever way to replicate the board game’s various scenarios and potential culprits.
In today’s entertainment landscape, there’s certainly a demand for whodunnits, with franchises like Netflix’s Knives Out (which is expanding with a third installment, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery) and shows like The Traitors capturing audience interest.
While we await further updates on the Clue remake, there’s plenty of excitement brewing for upcoming films hitting theaters in 2026.
