Jason Statham shines when he leans into self-parody. After his action-packed roles in the Fast and Furious series and as The Beekeeper, one of his standout performances was as the hilariously inept Rick Ford in Paul Feig’s 2015 comedy, Spy. Now, he’s set to bring his comedic chops to a new project under the direction of Deadpool 2’s David Leitch, playing a fictionalized version of himself in the upcoming film, Jason Statham Stole My Bike.
Leitch is reuniting with Statham after their collaboration on Hobbs & Shaw for this fresh film, where Statham is expected to swipe the prized possession of an unsuspecting victim. This role has been dubbed “the role of a lifetime” for the action star.
Reports indicate that the film is being pitched with an $80 million budget and will feature the high-octane action sequences that both the director and Statham are known for. We can only speculate whether Statham will perform his own stunts in this meta adventure.
No additional cast members have been announced yet, but it’s confirmed that Alison Flierl, known for her work on BoJack Horseman, is on board to write the script. It sounds like this film could echo the vibe of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, but with a lot more growling.
