Director of Stranger Things documentary dismisses season 5 Conformity Gate conspiracy as “wishful thinking” and clarifies that there won’t be a hidden episode 9.
Stranger Things is set to release a behind-the-scenes documentary soon, offering fans an inside look at the creation of the fifth and final season.
However, the finale has been somewhat overshadowed by a conspiracy theory dubbed Conformity Gate. This theory had many fans convinced that a secret episode 9 was in the works following the season 5 finale, suggesting that the events were partly an illusion crafted by the villain Vecna.
Documentary director Martina Radwan has seemingly put this theory to rest. “I can’t confirm or deny anything, but no,” she stated. “You know, you have to ask the Duffers. I can’t speak for them. But I wonder, is that wishful thinking, because people really want to get more? Like, they don’t want it to be over? Which I understand.”
The theory appeared to lose steam when January 7—the rumored release date for the supposed episode 9—came and went without any surprise installment. Instead, Netflix’s teased announcement turned out to be a trailer for upcoming releases in 2026.
While season 5 marks the conclusion of the main series, fans can look forward to an animated show titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 and a currently mysterious spin-off, ensuring that the universe will continue to expand.
