Discover the Stories Behind Your Favorite Tracks with Spotify’s About the Song Feature

Spotify is rolling out a beta version of About the Song today, designed to provide insights and facts about the tracks you’re currently enjoying. Premium users can access this new feature by scrolling down to the About the Song section in the Now Playing view. Initially, it will be available for a select number of tracks, but there are plans for broader availability in the future.

The feature presents trivia and background information as short, swipeable cards, drawing from various third-party sources. While the text is generated through machine learning, Spotify ensures transparency by citing its sources on the About the Song cards. The company has not confirmed whether this feature will be accessible to free users or when it might transition out of beta.

About the Song is part of Spotify’s ongoing effort to enhance its music streaming experience with additional features. Last year, it introduced expanded Song Credits and SongDNA, which provide listeners with more details about the artists behind their favorite tracks and highlight connections between them. Additionally, the acquisition of WhoSampled in November 2025 has given Spotify access to a vast database of sample credits, further enriching the SongDNA and About the Song features.
