Disney Introduces AI-Generated Content for Kids
Earlier this week, Disney teamed up with the French AI-animation studio Animaj to drop the first episodes of *Ozzy Fox*, an animated musical series aimed at young kids. The initial two episodes are now live on YouTube, marking a significant move in Disney’s journey to incorporate AI into its content.
On Wednesday, it was reported that Disney and Animaj released these episodes without much fanfare. They’ve already racked up over 750,000 views. The series follows a family of anthropomorphic foxes, with each episode featuring a catchy song designed to help kids with everyday tasks like using the bathroom and doing chores. Interestingly, there was no press release prior to the launch, as the companies wanted the debut to “speak for itself.”
Having watched the first two episodes, I found the visuals to be somewhat lackluster. While nothing appeared outright bad, the overall aesthetic felt very generic, typical of AI-generated content with its overly smooth and shiny look. I also spotted some peculiarities, such as a railing that looks unfinished in several scenes and a piano missing most of its bottom half. Notably, there seem to be no numbers or letters in the background, which is a curious detail.
While the specifics of how Animaj utilized AI for *Ozzy Fox* remain unclear, the studio is openly supportive of AI and has fully integrated these tools into its production process.
Animaj describes itself as a pioneer in a new wave of studios where data drives creativity, AI speeds up production, and distribution is part of the plan from the start. They claim to reach over 240 million kids monthly on YouTube through shorts and animated content created with their “proprietary AI-powered, digital-first production model.”
Given Disney’s recent ventures into AI, including a substantial $1 billion partnership with OpenAI, it’s not surprising to see them launch a cartoon series for kids that leverages AI technology. The company has also announced plans to allow users to create short-form video content featuring Disney characters using generative AI.
