Disney Plus Confirms Ads Will Be Present Across All Subscription Tiers
Disney Plus has made some significant changes to its subscriber agreement, and Premium subscribers might not be thrilled about it. The updated terms now allow ads and promotional content to be shown to all subscribers, regardless of their chosen tier.
According to the revised Service and Advertising clause 1.1.e, both Disney Plus and Disney Plus Premium can now include ads. The silver lining is that while the lower-tier ad-supported version may interrupt shows and movies with ads, Premium subscribers will only encounter them at the beginning or end of their viewing experience.
While it might be tempting to use an ad blocker to avoid interruptions, Disney has made it clear that doing so could lead to suspension or termination of the subscription, and streaming could be blocked while the ad blocker is active. Additionally, Disney reserves the right to upgrade a user with an ad blocker to the Premium tier, which they claim offers “the most similar features or functionality” to using the service with an ad blocker, and will charge the new rate starting from the date of the change.
Currently, the only accounts free from ads are those in Junior Mode. The basic Disney Plus plan is priced at $11.99 per month with ads, while the Premium tier costs $18.99 monthly. Premium subscribers pay an extra $7 to avoid ads, but it seems that even this additional fee may not fully shield them from unwanted advertisements.
Not too long ago, there were discussions about the possibility of making Disney Plus free in exchange for ad views. However, it appears that Disney is moving towards a model where users will continue to pay, subscriptions may rise in cost, and ads could still be a part of the experience.
A quiet transformation has taken place over 2026, hinting at significant changes ahead for customers.
