Disney’s Unusual Anime Crossover Set for 2026 Launch

While Kingdom Hearts might still hold the title for the most bizarre Disney crossover, Twisted Wonderland, a gacha game that reimagines Disney characters as attractive anime boys, is definitely a strong contender. The anime adaptation of this series is set to return for a second season, with Disney Japan announcing that it will stream exclusively on Disney Plus this December.

This new season will focus on the Savanaclaw dorm, inspired by Scar from The Lion King, which means fans can expect a lot of catboy action. For those who aren’t familiar, Disney Twisted Wonderland is a mobile game set in Night Raven College, where each dorm is themed after a different Disney villain. Instead of a single anime character representing a villain, each dorm features multiple characters loosely based on the original bad guys. For example, there are several heartthrobs inspired by Ursula from The Little Mermaid and her minions. The game was heavily influenced by Black Butler creator Yana Toboso, who designed the characters and wrote the script.

The first season of the anime premiered last year with eight episodes, focusing on the Heartslabyul Dorm, which is themed around the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. The series is planned to run for three seasons, and there’s also an ongoing manga adaptation.

For the second season, Takahiro Natori will return as director and series composer, with Shin Kataga co-directing. Yoichi Kato is the lead writer, while Haruka Nakana and Akane Sato will adapt Toboso’s character designs. The animation will once again be handled by Yumeta Company and Graphinica.

The story follows Yuuken Enma, a boy who is summoned to another world through a magic mirror (yes, it’s an isekai). As he navigates this new realm, he meets the school’s top students while searching for a way back home. The gacha game that inspired the anime has been a massive hit, raking in over $715 million since its launch in 2020 and achieving over 6 million downloads worldwide.

The beloved characters from the Japanese game are making their way to streaming.
