Divinity to Feature Co-Op Play at Launch
You’ll soon be able to dive into Divinity with your friends and family, as developer Larian Studios has confirmed that co-op gameplay will be part of the RPG upon its release. During a Reddit AMA, Larian’s technical director, Bert van Semmertier, confirmed that co-op will indeed be available, noting that the number of players who can join forces will depend on the final party size. He also mentioned that since modding is planned for the game, players will have the freedom to expand this limit, indicating there won’t be a strict cap on co-op participants.
Co-op wasn’t the only topic discussed; Larian’s CEO, Swen Vincke, addressed the controversial subject of generative AI, clarifying that Divinity will not include “any GenAI art.” While Larian may utilize certain AI tools during development, these will be based on the team’s previous work, as stated by Vincke. This clarification follows some backlash from earlier comments he made regarding generative AI.
Divinity was officially revealed at The Game Awards, following a mysterious teaser. As the next major title from the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, Vincke acknowledged the heightened expectations, admitting there’s “more pressure” this time around. However, he remains confident that Divinity will surpass Baldur’s Gate 3 “on all fronts.” While there’s no specific release window yet, it’s likely that Divinity will follow a similar early-access model as Baldur’s Gate 3.
