Divinity’s lead acknowledges they’re considering all UI mods for Baldur’s Gate 3, noting, “We had additional improvements planned that we couldn’t fit into our updates.”
Larian Studios is keeping a close eye on mod creators, particularly when it comes to user interface innovations, as they develop their next major CRPG, Divinity.
Following a chilling debut trailer last month and some heated discussions around generative AI, the team behind Baldur’s Gate 3 recently hosted an online AMA focused on Divinity, addressing a range of questions from co-op party sizes to D&D constraints.
When asked if they were drawing inspiration from Baldur’s Gate 3 modders, design lead Nick Pechenin confirmed, “we’re taking notes on all of the UI mods for sure” as they work on the new title.
Pechenin also mentioned that the UI team for Baldur’s Gate 3 “worked very hard to translate the complexity of an open-world D&D adventure into a video game format,” but acknowledged that some ideas didn’t make the final cut. “We had more improvements in mind that we just couldn’t cram into our releases,” he explained. “Happy we managed to make UI moddable in the first place.”
So, if there are any must-have mods from Baldur’s Gate 3 that enhance your experience, it’s likely that Larian Studios has taken notice and may even integrate some of those concepts into Divinity officially.
It’s no surprise that Larian highlighted UI mods, as one of the most popular mods on NexusMods for Baldur’s Gate 3 is, unsurprisingly, a UI improvement, boasting nearly eight million downloads.
Interestingly, the aspect I wanted more of in Baldur’s Gate 3 is also something Larian aims to enhance in Divinity: “More interaction between companions.”
