Doctor Strange Embarks on a Mind-Bending Multiverse Adventure from the Creators of Dune
Doctor Strange has had an eventful journey in the Marvel comics universe lately. He’s traversed the cosmos, faced death and resurrection, visited Asgard, and even teamed up with the Hulk for a brief escapade. This month, he’s set to explore the Nightmare Realm in a new graphic novel from the Marvel Arts line.
In *Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare*, the Sorcerer Supreme confronts a world plagued by insomnia. To unravel this magical and terrifying crisis, Doctor Strange must venture into the Nightmare Realm. The official description states, “Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare explores the boundary between dreams and reality, combining forces with an unlikely ally to end a waking nightmare that threatens to destroy the world.”
The chaos begins with a mysterious patient in a hospital who rants about a “slumbering god” that could annihilate the multiverse if awakened. Intense, right? Preview pages reveal this early scene before the real turmoil kicks in.
Written by Kevin J. Anderson, with art by Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín, this trio previously collaborated on graphic novel adaptations of *Dune*.
The Marvel Arts line is curated by the legendary cover artist Alex Ross, who recently released *Marvel Dimensions*. He praised the artwork, stating, “Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín’s work presents a fully lived-in New York you feel like you can visit. Their use of Doctor Strange is as close as we’ll get to a contemporary *Little Nemo in Slumberland*, with the majesty of Winsor McCay’s art and storytelling. I am thrilled to have Kevin J. Anderson, Raúl, and Patricia part of the Marvel Arts line. Their combined artistry elevates the possibilities of the graphic novel format.”
Kevin J. Anderson shared his excitement about the project, saying, “The character of Doctor Strange has access to so many bizarre realms, I wanted to introduce him to a dark and twisted Lovecraft-inspired story. I brought in an important and popular villain from the Doctor Strange universe, as well as another villain who hasn’t appeared since Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created him in 1964’s *Dr. Strange #122*. It was amazing to play in this universe.”
While his return in *Avengers: Doomsday* remains uncertain, Doctor Strange will next appear in *Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare*, set to release in hardcover for $25.99 on September 8.
