Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Update Transforms the Game Experience
Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena game set in the Dragon Ball universe, but big changes are on the horizon as it approaches its first anniversary. While it will continue to be free-to-play, the game is transitioning from a MOBA format to a third-person fighting game. Over the next few months, players can expect significant gameplay adjustments as the game undergoes this transformation.
In a letter from the developers, it was noted that the skill gap among players was too pronounced, leading to a frustrating experience for newcomers who often ended up quitting. The goal of this overhaul is to maintain enjoyment for seasoned players while making the game more accessible for beginners. To achieve this, the developers are revamping the camera perspective, gameplay mechanics, and character roles.
Gone will be the top-down view that has characterized Gekishin Squadra. Instead, players will experience a closer, more immersive camera angle. The developers believe that the game’s “strategic depth and knowledge-based mechanics” contributed to the noticeable skill gap, and they plan to address this by revising the rules and maps. Additionally, character roles will be simplified, allowing fans to enjoy their favorite Dragon Ball characters without being restricted by specific battle roles. This likely means players will have more flexibility in choosing characters, with less emphasis on unique stats.
Customization options are also set to improve, enhancing the overall battle experience and visual effects. Character acquisition will be streamlined, and advanced gameplay elements will be expanded.
However, the community response to these changes has been largely negative. Many players took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the planned overhaul, voicing concerns about the complete transformation of a game they have invested time in over the past year. Although these changes are not expected to be fully implemented until the end of the year, some players have already chosen to uninstall Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra.
It remains uncertain whether the developers will reconsider their approach in light of the backlash or if they will proceed with the complete overhaul as planned.
