Dragon Quest Creator Reveals When to Expect New Details on the Upcoming RPG
Yuji Horii, the mastermind behind the iconic Dragon Quest RPG series, has inadvertently let slip when fans can expect to hear more about the next installments in the franchise.
During a now-removed episode of the KosoKoso broadcast, Horii hinted at an upcoming livestream dedicated to Dragon Quest, where new titles will be unveiled. According to a translation of his remarks, he mentioned, “We’ll be doing a live stream on May 27. I think we’ll be able to make an announcement about the next game. We’ll also have various other things besides the next game, so please look forward to it.”
The removal of the KosoKoso video suggests that Horii may have revealed information prematurely, potentially spoiling a surprise for the Dragon Quest community. Nevertheless, fans can look forward to updates on anticipated titles like Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate.
First teased during a 2021 livestream celebrating the series’ 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest 12 has seen little discussion since then. With the 40th anniversary approaching, this presentation could be the ideal moment for the game to make a comeback after years of speculation.
Fortunately, Dragon Quest enthusiasts haven’t been left wanting for content in recent years. The first three games in the series received HD-2D remakes, and earlier this year, Dragon Quest 7 was reimagined in a fresh style. Additionally, spin-offs such as Dragon Quest Treasures, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, and Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest – The Adventure of Dai have kept fans engaged.
With less than three weeks until the 40th anniversary of Dragon Quest, Square Enix will need to clarify whether Horii’s comments hold true sooner rather than later. Even if nothing materializes, fans can take pride in the fact that the original Dragon Quest has just been inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame while eagerly awaiting news about Dragon Quest 12.
