Dune: Awakening Developers Prioritize PvE Experience in Survival Game

The team behind the online multiplayer survival game set in the Dune universe, Dune: Awakening, has decided to shift its focus away from player-versus-player (PvP) content for a compelling reason: only about 20% of players actively engaged with it, which may have impacted the experience for the majority. As a result, the developers are adopting a “PvE-first” approach for the game, as detailed in a recent update on the game’s store page.

The studio highlighted that over 80% of players have primarily interacted with PvE content, leading to discussions about the integration of PvE and PvP, especially in the Deep Desert. This feedback has prompted a reevaluation of Dune: Awakening’s design to emphasize its PvE-first nature. While PvP remains a significant aspect for some, it will now be optional and incentivized rather than essential for progression.

With the upcoming patch 1.3.20.0, players can expect the following changes:

– All PvP zones in Hagga Basin will be disabled across all official Worlds.
– Official Worlds will feature separate Deep Desert instances:
– A PvE instance focused solely on survival and exploration, free from player combat, including no PvP in any of the rows, such as Shipwrecks.
– A PvP instance that retains the classic high-stakes environment and open-world conflict across rows B through I, with a 2.5x yield boost for mining and spice harvesting in PvP areas to ensure rewards match the risks.

The community response to these changes has been largely positive, with many players expressing a desire for reduced PvP emphasis since the game’s beta. Others have cited issues with glitches and cheating as reasons for avoiding PvP, a challenge not uncommon in multiplayer games.

For those who may have stepped away from Dune: Awakening due to PvP requirements, now might be the perfect time to dive back in, especially as excitement around the Dune franchise is set to rise.

Dune: Awakening is currently available on Windows PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions slated for release later this year.
