Dungeon Crawler Carl Set for New Release in 2024

Even if you haven’t delved into the books, you’ve likely heard of Dungeon Crawler Carl by now. This LitRPG series, crafted by Matt Dinniman, has exploded in popularity and continues to grow. Alongside a television adaptation, Dungeon Crawler Carl is also making its way to the comic book realm.

The news comes from an announcement that Vault Comics will be launching an ongoing Dungeon Crawler Carl comic. This new series will serialize the existing webtoon adaptation, keeping writer Tevagah on board, with artwork from Laurel Pursuit Studios. Kuzomari will assist in adapting the visuals for the comic format, while Nathan Gooden will create the main covers, along with a variety of alternate designs.

For those unfamiliar, here’s a quick rundown of the series:

Dungeon Crawler Carl follows Coast Guard veteran Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they navigate a trap-laden fantasy dungeon in a world that feels like a video game. This dungeon is actually the set of a reality TV show, drawing countless viewers from across the galaxy.

Regarding this new comic adaptation, Dinniman expressed his excitement, stating, “Entering the comic space is nothing short of amazing. The fact that I get to work with some of the greatest creators and artists working today feels like a dream.” The first issue of the Dungeon Crawler Carl comic will be a hefty, double-sized 48 pages and is slated for release in January 2027.

Dinniman is also hard at work on the ninth book in the series, tentatively titled The Beautiful Place, though a release date hasn’t been set yet. He has shared the prologue and early chapters, and with the latest book released this year, fans might expect the ninth installment to drop in late 2027 if he maintains his usual writing pace. This upcoming book is said to mark the beginning of the series’ conclusion, culminating in a tenth book.

In addition to the main series, there are numerous Dungeon Crawler Carl projects in development. During New York Comic Con, Universal Global Television’s scripted series chief mentioned that filming could kick off as soon as next year. Plus, there’s a solid tabletop RPG based on the series already available.
