Dungeons & Dragons Unveils Initial Details of Star Wars Collaboration
After revealing a crossover between Star Wars and Dungeons & Dragons back in July, new details about this exciting tabletop RPG collaboration have emerged at New York Comic Con.
The expansion will feature two key components: an adventure titled Star Wars Tyro Squadron: Adventures and a D&D | Star Wars Core Rulesbook. Alongside this announcement, the cover art and concept visuals for the expansion were also unveiled.
“In D&D | Star Wars, Tyro Squadron: Adventures, join a secret Rebel crew in the fight against the Empire,” the expansion’s description states. “Set during the Original Trilogy, these fresh narratives unfold as Luke and Leia engage in their own battles across the galaxy. Embark on daring missions, explore uncharted territories, and influence the Rebellion’s story—your way.” It appears the focus will be on resourceful rogues taking on the Empire rather than Jedi from a “more civilized age.”
While specific details about the Core Rulesbook and how blasters and lightsabers will be integrated into D&D mechanics were not disclosed, the company indicated that more information will be shared soon. Both the adventure and rules expansion are slated for release in 2027.
This Star Wars collaboration marks the second significant Dungeons & Dragons crossover under the Universes Beyond initiative, following the D&D: World of Warcraft expansion. The World of Warcraft content promises players the chance to “explore beloved zones, delve through familiar dungeons, and face legendary foes from over 20 years of World of Warcraft history.” In addition to the core sourcebook, there will be an Icecrown Citadel Map Pack featuring poster-sized maps, tokens, and a “digital adventure.” The World of Warcraft-themed content is set to launch on November 17.
Universes Beyond was first introduced in 2021 as a crossover brand for Magic: The Gathering, which has sparked some controversy among players. Many have expressed dissatisfaction with Universes Beyond for contributing to the game’s commercialization and the influx of numerous card releases. Crossovers have included franchises like Warhammer 40,000, Marvel, Final Fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, and even SpongeBob SquarePants. Despite the mixed reactions, the brand has proven to be financially successful for Wizards of the Coast, suggesting it will continue to thrive.
World of Warcraft will kick off a new series of licensed settings.
