The Duskbloods made a surprising debut during last April’s Nintendo Switch 2-focused Direct, but details from developer FromSoftware have been scarce since then. Its recent appearance in Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct confirmed that the 2025 reveal was indeed real. While we still lack a specific release date for the Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods, it has been confirmed that players will get a chance to try it out this summer. A closed network test was mentioned during the Direct, but specifics on the date or how to sign up are still under wraps.
The new trailer doesn’t reveal much about the gameplay of The Duskbloods, but it does feature some striking visuals, including a red moon in the sky and a talking rat adorned with runes.
Following last year’s Elden Ring Nightreign, The Duskbloods continues FromSoftware’s exploration of multiplayer mechanics. “I’ve always found the PvPvE structure very interesting. It allows for a broad range of game-design ideas, while also letting us leverage our experience of designing challenging enemy encounters,” said director Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview back in April 2025.
The Duskbloods will allow up to eight players to compete against each other “for supremacy among themselves and against challenging foes,” as noted in a press release from FromSoftware at the time of the initial reveal. Although it may resemble Bloodborne 2, The Duskbloods is a brand-new IP from FromSoftware, and like Bloodborne, it will be exclusive to a single platform.
Additionally, The Duskbloods won’t be the only title from FromSoftware making its way to the Switch 2 this year. In early June, it was announced that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will launch on August 28 for Nintendo’s hybrid console.
A preview of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition at GDC has helped ease concerns about The Duskbloods.
