Danny DeVito has officially bid farewell to the Jumanji franchise.
The actor has completed filming on Jumanji 3, which will also mark the conclusion of the series. His co-star Dwayne Johnson shared a heartfelt goodbye on social media.
“That’s an official Jumanji wrap on the one and the only, Danny DeVito,” Johnson posted on Instagram, alongside photos of himself with DeVito and their co-star Kevin Hart. “Working with you and learning from you has been an honor ~ and to call you my friend will always be a privilege. Thank you, brother, for your anchoring heart and JOY throughout our Jumanji franchise. Let’s tell more stories together. Ps, please keep smilin’ and please keep exfoliating the top of your head.”
The original film about the magical board game, featuring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst, debuted in 1995. A spin-off titled Zathura: A Space Adventure, centered on another mysterious board game, followed in 2002, before the franchise was rebooted with 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level.
In this new era, the board game has transformed into a video game, with Johnson and Hart joined by Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas. DeVito joined the franchise for The Next Level, portraying Eddie Gilpin, the grandfather of Johnson’s character, Spencer.
A first look at the threequel hints at an intriguing twist, with video game characters crossing over into the real world this time, but details about the movie remain scarce.
Jumanji 3 is set to hit theaters on December 11. For more on what to watch, keep an eye on upcoming major movie release dates in 2026.
