Dyson Unveils Handheld Version of Its Signature Fans
Nearly 17 years after Dyson introduced its Air Multiplier fans, the company has scaled down its design to unveil the HushJet Mini Cool, a handheld personal cooler. Just like Dyson’s larger Air Multipliers, humidifiers, air purifiers, and heaters, the HushJet Mini Cool features a blade-free design, eliminating the risk of injury or tangling with clothing and jewelry. All moving parts are securely enclosed, which is crucial since, similar to Dyson’s hair dryers, this device is meant to be held.
Powered by a brushless 65,000rpm DC motor, the HushJet Mini Cool can deliver air at speeds reaching 55mph, with adjustable settings to extend battery life and reduce noise. Dyson claims the fan’s 5,000mAh rechargeable battery can last up to six hours, producing 52dBA of sound at its lowest setting—comparable to a typical floor fan or air conditioner. In Boost Mode, the noise level increases to 72.5dBA.
The HushJet Mini Cool’s components, including the motor and battery, are encased in a cylindrical body measuring 38mm in diameter, matching the thickness of Dyson’s Supersonic hair dryer and slimmer than a can of Red Bull. The top features a nozzle that can be rotated to direct airflow either straight up or at an angle. While its design may evoke the appearance of a sea lamprey, it’s crafted to minimize higher-pitched sounds, making it more pleasant to use.
The HushJet Mini Cool will launch on April 9th for $99 in a stone/blush color. A carnelian/sky (red) option will be available in May, followed by an ink/cobalt (blue) version in June. The fan will come with accessories such as a charger for standalone use and a lanyard for hands-free wear around the neck. Additional accessories, including a stroller mount and a grip clip for attaching the fan to bags and jackets, are expected to be released in the summer.
