EA Confirms the Existence of Star Wars Battlefront 3
In September 2025, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners announced their acquisition of Electronic Arts, officially closing the deal on August 4 this year. Following this transition, EA made a significant move by laying off 3% of its global workforce.
This decision hit EA employees hard, especially at BioWare, which has been permanently shut down, leading to the cancellation of the new Mass Effect title. The full memo sent to EA staff is available for those interested.
On a brighter note for Star Wars fans, the long-awaited Star Wars Battlefront 3 is indeed in development.
According to reports, EA’s Cam Weber, president and chief studios officer, along with David Tinson, president and COO, confirmed that the publisher is experiencing strong success with first-person live-service shooters, particularly Battlefield 6. Future Battlefield titles are on the horizon, and the executives mentioned plans to unite Respawn and DICE studios for a collaborative project. Respawn is also working on the next installment of the Jedi series, Jedi 3.
Multiple sources have indicated that this collaborative effort is focused on Star Wars Battlefront 3 for Lucasfilm Games.
The head of Electronic Arts stated, “Our values and our commitment to players… remain unchanged,” which seems to put to rest rumors that Bungie, known for the Destiny series, would take over Star Wars Battlefront 3. While Bungie’s success with Destiny is notable, DICE has consistently managed the modern iterations of Star Wars Battlefront with care, and that approach is likely to continue.
It’s been nearly ten years since DICE launched Star Wars Battlefront 2, which featured a single-player campaign following Iden Versio, an Imperial leader turned Rebel soldier. The multiplayer mode allowed players to engage in epic battles across various eras, from the Clone Wars to the Age of Rebellion.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 received mixed reviews due to its pay-to-win mechanics and limited customization options, but it eventually improved through updates. Following the success of Andor season 2 and community efforts, there was a resurgence of players returning to the game, sparking discussions about the potential for Star Wars Battlefront 3.
With that confirmation now in place, and with Respawn’s expertise in multiplayer shooters from Apex Legends joining forces with DICE, fans are eager to see what the developers will bring to this beloved franchise. Since 2017, new eras have emerged, including The High Republic and Dawn of the Jedi. Will these eras make their way into the upcoming game? Only time — and resources — will reveal the answer.
