Elden Ring Movie by A24 Reaches Key Production Milestone

The Elden Ring movie is officially making strides toward becoming a reality. A crew member involved in director Alex Garland’s live-action adaptation of the acclaimed 2022 game has revealed that filming is nearly complete after almost four months of production. However, fans will have to wait a while longer, as the film is not expected to hit theaters until 2028.

Prop maker Sean Schofield, known for his work on projects like The Witcher and The Rings of Power, shared an update on his Instagram account, showcasing a wrap gift and a thank-you note addressed to the cast and crew, signed by Garland and producers Allon Reich, Matthew Penry-Davey, Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Charlie Reed.

“Dream job to end all dream jobs,” Schofield expressed. “Six solid months of blood, sweat, and tears creating the coolest stuff ever, working alongside the best of the best. I can’t share anything else for a very long time, but I couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished.”

While Schofield hasn’t shared any of his work from Elden Ring on his personal account, fans have caught glimpses of game-accurate props through set photos. Over the past few months, both fans and paparazzi have snapped images of shooting locations and actors on set, revealing characters like Queen Marika, the Dung Eater, and Sorcerer Rogier, along with sets representing Stormveil Castle and Liurnia of the Lakes.

As the film moves into post-production, the distant release date suggests that significant visual effects work is still ahead. An outlet has reached out to confirm the movie’s production status and will provide updates as they come.

The adaptation was announced in May 2025, with Alex Garland, the writer-director known for Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War, at the helm. A fan of FromSoftware’s game, Garland has reportedly completed Elden Ring seven times and has a strong background with the Dark Souls series. His passion for the project led him to write a 160-page script, complete with 40 pages of “additional imagery,” to persuade FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki to allow him to adapt Elden Ring. Garland has also adapted various works, including the screenplays for Never Let Me Go, Annihilation, and Dredd.

Elden Ring is set to premiere on March 3, 2028. The confirmed cast so far includes:
