Elder Scrolls 6 director believes delaying GTA 6 is wise, as fans deserve a game that meets their high expectations.
The wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 might be a long one, and I mean really long. But just like with GTA 6, games of this magnitude require as much time as they need to be developed. A key figure at Bethesda has expressed support for this approach, noting that Rockstars’ decision to delay its upcoming crime simulator was the right move, emphasizing that ensuring a polished final product should always take precedence.
“GTA 6 just got pushed again, which was the smartest thing they could do,” said Emil Pagliarulo, studio design director at Bethesda. “Games of this scale not only take a long time to create but also require extensive time for refinement and bug fixing.”
He presents a straightforward choice for eager gamers: “Do they want a game that releases prematurely and fails to meet their expectations? Or do they prefer the turkey that’s been in the oven long enough to be delicious when it finally comes out?”
His perspective is quite valid. Cyberpunk 2077 serves as a cautionary tale, launching in an unfinished state and leaving many players disappointed. Fallout: New Vegas also faced similar challenges, putting the studio in a tough spot as they worked to mend the issues post-launch.
These titles are crafted to be enjoyed for years—Skyrim just received another port this month, a staggering 14 years after its original release. There’s no set timeline for perfecting these kinds of projects. “We’re going to take our time and as long as it needs to be great,” Pagliarulo concluded.
That’s really all we can hope for regarding the sixth installment of The Elder Scrolls. And let’s be honest, it could always be worse—just think about how much longer we might have to wait for Fallout 5.
Bethesda’s Todd Howard mentions that Fallout 76 is “the game we’re still doing the most work in,” and fans of the Prime TV show should definitely give it a shot.
