Elder Scrolls 6 Fans Claim They’ve Uncovered the Game’s Title from a Hidden Easter Egg
Earlier this month, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma revealed that she had watched a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls 6, praising the game’s “scale and grandeur” as “incredible” and its story as “even greater.” Interestingly, she referred to Bethesda’s upcoming RPG as “The Elder Scrolls VI: ********.” This has sparked speculation among fans about what the eight asterisks could represent.
Three years ago, a player of Starfield noticed something intriguing during the character creation menu: a specific employee number displayed on the screen. The number, 190514-2009140512, might seem random, but the player identified a pattern. By breaking the number into pairs and matching them to letters in the alphabet (A=1, B=2, etc.), they uncovered the word “Sentinel.”
Coincidentally, “Sentinel” is an eight-letter word, matching the missing subtitle in Sharma’s hint. Players also noted that Bethesda altered the number displayed between the gameplay reveal in 2022 and the playable version in 2023. The fact that this number is consistent for all players suggests that the change was deliberate.
Fans were further convinced by a response from former Bethesda employee Michael Kirkbride, who worked on The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. He simply replied “yep” to a social media post speculating that “Sentinel” was the word Sharma left out.
If this theory holds true, it’s a fascinating twist! This mini-puzzle also serves as a distraction from the news that Bethesda union workers protested against mass layoffs at Xbox on the same day Sharma attended the playthrough. The Xbox CEO was met with a large inflatable rat on the lawn outside Bethesda’s offices, surrounded by small red flags representing laid-off ZeniMax employees.
While The Elder Scrolls 6 doesn’t have an official release date yet, it’s anticipated to launch in 2028 or later. Earlier this year, Bethesda workers voiced concerns about the number of veteran developers who had been let go, particularly from the RPG’s quality assurance team, which has raised doubts about the future of TES6.
