Elijah Wood hints at potential new Lord of the Rings films following The Hunt for Gollum.

Elijah Wood, known for his role as Frodo, has hinted at the possibility of more films set in the Lord of the Rings universe following The Hunt for Gollum.

This upcoming film is expected to take place before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, focusing on Gandalf and Aragorn’s quest to find Gollum after Bilbo passes the One Ring to Frodo. While it’s still uncertain if Wood will reprise his role, Ian McKellen, who plays Gandalf, has suggested that both Gandalf and Frodo will appear in the film.

“I can neither confirm nor deny. Listen, a wizard is to be trusted,” Wood shared during a panel at Fan Expo New Orleans, where he discussed his potential involvement. “Aside from any of that, I’m not really allowed to confirm. I’m really excited about the film. It feels like a creative ‘getting the band back together.’ Many of the original creative team are returning. Philippa [Boyens] is co-writing and producing, so it’s very much the core group coming back to tell a story that will be a fun exploration of a character we all love. I’m just really excited.”

He also expressed enthusiasm for Andy Serkis directing the film, noting, “It feels so unbelievably appropriate that he directs a film about his character that he has really made his own. I’m thrilled. It’ll be great. And I’m excited to see… I know their intention is to make other films in this universe. That’s exciting and interesting to see where that goes.”

As of now, no additional Lord of the Rings films have been officially announced, although season 3 of The Rings of Power is in the works. It’s important to note that this series is set much earlier in the timeline, during the Second Age, and is separate from the films.

The Hunt for Gollum is set to release on December 17, 2027.
