Elliot’s Adventures Addresses the Game’s Most Frustrating Issue
Square Enix’s latest RPG, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, is a delightful HD-2D experience reminiscent of classic Zelda titles, with a design that feels familiar yet engaging. However, one significant critique has emerged since its June 18 release: the characters just won’t stop talking! Nearly a month post-launch, Square Enix is addressing this concern.
The Adventures of Elliot Version 1.1.0 dropped this morning, and while the update notes are brief, the changes are impactful. The key highlight is the addition of an option to mute the support character’s voice. This adjustment primarily affects Faie, the main companion character, who has been likened to Navi for her constant commentary. Players voiced their frustrations about Faie’s relentless chatter right from the demo’s debut.
The core issue with Faie’s dialogue is that it detracts from the exploration and discovery elements of the game. When she’s constantly providing hints or pointing out secrets, it can feel like the player is being rushed through the experience.
Producer Naofumi Matsushita mentioned that the feedback took the team by surprise, as they had grown fond of Faie during development. In response to initial player concerns, an option was included at launch to reduce the frequency of her dialogue. However, that didn’t fully resolve the issue, leading to the new feature in Version 1.1.0 that allows players to completely silence her.
Despite Faie’s chatter, there’s plenty to enjoy in The Adventures of Elliot. The game captures the essence of a SNES classic, beautifully rendered in Square Enix’s stunning HD-2D style. It may not break new ground by 2026 standards, but it offers tight pacing, diverse boss battles, satisfying puzzles, and a soundtrack and visuals that evoke a fairy-tale atmosphere. Spanning four unique time periods, the compact map and 25-hour playtime encourage exploration without feeling overwhelming.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
