Elon Musk refutes claims regarding SpaceX’s AI phone prototype.
Elon Musk has dismissed claims about a SpaceX AI phone prototype as “utterly false.” A recent report suggested that SpaceX showcased a “handset-like prototype” to investors ahead of its record-setting IPO in June. According to the report, the device was described as “slimmer than an iPhone” and was said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. It was also rumored to feature a unique AI-enabled operating system, leveraging technology from SpaceX’s xAI.
In a related note, it was reported that Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX’s chief operating officer, mentioned to investors that the company is exploring the possibility of launching a mobile service in the U.S. that would integrate with its Starlink satellite network. Some analysts have speculated about a potential acquisition of T-Mobile, as Starlink remains SpaceX’s only profitable venture.
Musk has previously downplayed the notion of creating a phone, though he hasn’t completely ruled it out. At an event in Pennsylvania last year, he remarked, “the idea of making a phone makes me want to die,” but added, “if we have to make a phone, we will, but we will aspire not to make a phone.” In February, he reiterated that SpaceX is “not developing a phone” following reports about the company working on a device for Starlink.
