Epic Games is reportedly developing a Disney-themed extraction shooter.
A recent report indicates that the first game to emerge following Epic and Disney’s significant $1.5 billion partnership will be an extraction shooter, reminiscent of Arc Raiders, featuring characters from the Disney universe.
On April 10, it was revealed that Epic is developing an online shooter where various Disney characters team up to battle foes and reach an extraction point. Internal playtesters noted that while the gameplay mechanics may not be groundbreaking, there is optimism within Epic that they can refine everything in time for the anticipated launch in November.
This title marks the first of three games reportedly in the works at Epic as part of Disney’s substantial investment from 2024. However, sources suggest that the other two projects are facing challenges. The second game has received mixed feedback from internal testers, and resources have been redirected from the third game to support both the extraction shooter and the second project after Disney expressed concerns about the development pace.
Epic’s global communications director stated that the report does not accurately reflect the ambitions of the Disney collaboration, emphasizing their goal of creating a new gaming and entertainment universe filled with Disney experiences. A Disney spokesperson reiterated the company’s commitment to its long-term partnership with Epic and its vision for a transformative gaming and entertainment universe remains intact.
