Evercade unveils a new handheld with an expanded screen and dual thumbsticks for enhanced 3D gaming.
Evercade has unveiled its latest portable console, the Nexus, which boasts a sizable 5.89-inch screen—an upgrade from the 4.3-inch display found on the previous EXP-R model. The Nexus also enhances resolution slightly, moving from 800×480 pixels to 840×512, and shifts from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a more modern 16:9. Preorders for the Nexus will kick off on April 1st at a price of $199.99, with shipping anticipated in October 2026.
Staying true to its roots, the Nexus, like earlier Evercade handhelds including the Super Pocket series, does not feature an app store, cannot play ROMs, and is not compatible with original game cartridges from brands like Nintendo and Sega. Instead, it utilizes a range of proprietary cartridges from Evercade, each containing multiple titles. The company claims to offer over 700 officially licensed retro games across more than 80 cartridges. The Nexus will launch with a cartridge that includes enhanced versions of Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, optimized for the new 16:9 display.
Additional features of the Nexus include dual analog thumb sticks, wireless headphone support, a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, and a robust 5,000mAh battery that provides over five hours of gameplay. Evercade is also rolling out a new wireless multiplayer feature called EverSync, allowing players to temporarily share games between Nexus devices, so only one cartridge is needed for multiplayer fun.
